Democracy Dies in Darkness

This is disgusting that a Hindi Cinema actress peddles not only the lies in broad daylight but also makes a strong assertion that demeans and belittles the honest sacrifice our forefathers made for us. The recipient of a highly coveted civilian honor deliberately and disrespectfully attempts desecration of the sweat and blood of the freedom warriors. Surprisingly, a National TV Channel let this happen. They did not even refute the hyperbole and the atrocious lies or run an apology for spreading the hateful agenda. The audience crouching there played the cheerleader's role.

This whole episode of Kangana Ranaut discarding the freedom we attained on August 15, 1947, and constantly dishonoring a nation-state this way, reminds me of Kamla Haris' statements in which she advised the people of America (the oldest and one of the strongest democracies.) last November to respect what their ancestors have bestowed them. Her words were, "Don't take your democracy for granted."

If the cloud of autocracy could hover over the head of the strongest democracy, then imagine the fate of a nascent democracy like ours.
